Zheravna is a village, some 16 km south-east of Kotel - town in the outskirts of the eastern range of Stara Planina (The Old Mountain). The village was settled in XII-XIV c. In 18th c. it became a cultural centre and gathering place for crafting arts.
Today Zheravna is a well-known architectural reserve. There are more than 200 wooden houses build in the Renaissance, each being a cultural monument on its own. Some of them are over 300 years old. The authentic Renaissance architecture has been preserved in the whole village - the narrow cobblestone streets, the wooden one or two-storied houses with carved facades and stone foundations.
One of the houses in the village was the home of the great Bulgarian writer Yordan Yovkov and is now turned into e museum with display of manuscripts. The interior of the house is restored in the authentic spirit of the past
