Cape Kaliakra is situated 60 km northeast from the proclaimed as "sea-resort Capital of Bulgaria" – Varna. The shore is 70 m high cliff leaning over the Black Sea. In translation the name means “beautiful cape”. Besides the southing horizon, here you can see cormorants nesting by or dolphins and seals sliming around near the shore.
The place relates to a legend telling the heartrending story of 40 courageous bulgarian girls. Instead of giving into the hands of the Ottoman repressor, they went to the edge of the cliff and after tying together their hairs jumped into the splashing waters.
