The Sofia Synagogue is the 3rd largest synagogue in Europe and can easily accommodate over 1 000 worshippers. Constructed after a project by an Austrian architect, it resembles the Stadttempel synagogue in Vienna and was opened on 9 September 1909 in the presence of Tsar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria.
Especially interesting is the synagogue's main chandelier weighing 2 tons, which makes it the largest in the country.
