Botev peak is the highest point in Stara Planina (2376 m elevation) and the 3rd in whole Bulgaria, following Musala (2925 m) and Vihren (2914 m). The peak is part of the Central Balkan Natioanal Park – one of the largest nature parks in Europe. In this part of the mountain is the highest waterfall on the Balkans – Rayskoto Praskalo (124.5 m).
At the very peak a meteorological station and broadcast tower, transmitting TV and radio signal over 50% of the Bulgarian territory. Until 1950 the peak is was called Umrukchal ( Fist Hill).
